My First Weekend at McMaster
My first weekend at Mcmaster was a scary one for me, my mom and dad. My
blood chemistry was a rollercoaster, and the nurses and Dr. Kozenko
worked hard and fast to try to get my blood gases as stable as
possible. Everything they tried to give me just didn't seem to work. I
was taken off feedings and I was given a saline/dextrose solution
through my IV instead. The Dr.s and nurses kept changing my solutions to
get a combination that seemed to keep me relatively stable. My IVs
would periodically stop working so they had to keep finding new veins in
my head/feet/arms. By the end of the weekend I was somewhat stable. I
was still very sleepy, hardly waking for my standard heel pokes.
